Garden settings

Garden settings configure one specific garden. They are separate from your Preferences, which apply across every garden. Reach garden settings via the gear icon in the sidebar (when inside a garden), or through the More menu on mobile.

Settings are grouped into six tabs, each with one job, so you are not scrolling one long page to find a control.

Settings search

A search box sits at the top of every settings page. Type a setting’s name or a related word (“theme”, “capacity”, “delete”, “api”) and jump straight to it. The search only shows settings you can actually reach for your role and plan, and it spans both garden settings and your account Preferences.

Garden

The home of “what and where this garden is”, plus the one irreversible action.

Garden details covers the name (how this garden appears in the switcher and member lists), the type (Raised beds, Container, In-ground, or Mixed, used in the AI context), the canvas size in feet, and your USDA hardiness zone (used for seasonal timing and frost anchors).

Location is a city, address, or ZIP, resolved to coordinates for the live weather feed behind proactive AI suggestions and the Conditions page. Owner only. Clear the field and save to remove it.

Danger zone holds “Delete this garden”, which permanently removes the garden and everything in it. It sits at the bottom of the tab and is owner only.

Workload

Weekly capacity is how many hours a week you can spend in this garden. It sets the “busy week” line on the Workload chart, so weeks above it are flagged as spikes. The tab links straight to the Workload view.

Owners also control whether companions can edit these settings, whether outsourced tasks are excluded from your workload, and which task types count as outsourced by default.

AI

Everything that tunes the AI or costs tokens, in one place.

Daily suggestions (owner) proposes tasks automatically once a day as you open Today. Off by default to keep AI cost in your control.

AI prompt (Expert tier, owner) lets you add a supplement appended to the base prompt, or an override that replaces it entirely. The base GardenOS prompt is managed for you and is not shown.

AI usage this month (Advanced tier and up) shows calls, spend, remaining, and budget, and lets the owner set the monthly budget that gates AI spend.

People

Invite people to your garden and manage their roles. Owner has full access including settings and invites. Companion can read and write (log tasks, observations, plantings) but cannot change settings or invite others. Observer is read-only, useful for a partner or family member who wants to follow along. Invites are sent by email; the invited person creates or signs into an account and is added to the garden.

Inviting members needs the service-role key deployed as a Fly secret. On a personal instance this may not be enabled yet.

Sensors

Register Home Assistant sensors so their readings flow into GardenOS, optionally tied to a specific bed or asset. Live readings show on the Conditions page. Pushing readings uses an API key from the Data & API tab.

Data & API

Import and export move data in and out of the garden. Import (owners and companions) uploads a CSV, maps its columns, and reviews before saving. Export (Advanced tier) downloads plantings, tasks, observations, or assets as CSV or XLSX.

API keys (Expert tier, owner) let scripts or Home Assistant read this garden, or push sensor readings, with a bearer token scoped to this garden. A key is shown once.
